China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his hope to India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval over the phone that the understanding between New Delhi and Islamabad should be maintained. This conversation came after Pakistan launched a drone attack in the Kashmir border region on Saturday evening, following the decision to establish mutual understanding between the two countries. According to China’s official news agency Xinhua, Wang stated that China hopes that India and Pakistan will resolve all issues through discussions and consultations.
Wang Yi requested New Delhi that the situation should not escalate further. He strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack and stated that China welcomes the recent understanding between the two countries. He emphasized that both nations should maintain peace and resolve their issues through dialogue, which would benefit both countries and international interests.
According to Xinhua, during the phone conversation with Ajit Doval, Wang Yi also discussed the current global situation. He mentioned that India and Pakistan are both neighboring countries to China, and this should not be forgotten. He stated that achieving peace and stability in Asia has been a difficult task, and therefore, peace should be maintained by everyone. He hoped that both countries would not escalate tensions.
Ajit Doval clearly stated that India had not taken any action beforehand. He told Wang Yi that India does not want war but needs to take strong action against terrorism. He said that several innocent people lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack, and India has a responsibility to act. However, both India and Pakistan have decided to maintain the understanding, and India hopes that peace will prevail in the future.
According to Xinhua, Wang Yi also spoke with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Wang expressed concern over the rising tension between India and Pakistan and stated that China believes that Pakistan will make decisions in line with its long-term and fundamental interests. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan also wants to maintain peace on the border, but if the country’s sovereignty and integrity are threatened, it will respond accordingly. However, Wang Yi clarified that China does not support any form of terrorism and reminded that Pakistan is at the forefront of the global fight against terrorism.
