The Calcutta High Court has admitted a petition seeking permission to file a First Information Report (FIR) against alleged bias in the investigation of a woman’s molestation inside the Narayangarh Trinamool Congress party office.
According to the plea, on April 12, a woman visiting the Narayangarh office was allegedly molested by two party workers. She immediately lodged a complaint with local police, but the investigation that followed was purportedly prejudiced in favor of the accused. The petitioners claim key witnesses were ignored and critical CCTV footage was not reviewed.
The High Court, upon hearing the matter, has directed the state government and the Narayangarh Superintendent of Police to respond within four weeks. The court’s order emphasizes the importance of an impartial and thorough probe into the serious allegations.
Petitioners’ lawyer Arindam Ghosh stated, “Our client deserves justice. We hope the High Court’s intervention will ensure a fair investigation, free from political influence.”
The case raises concerns over the integrity of investigations when political figures or party offices are involved. Observers note that a transparent process is essential to uphold public trust in the justice system.
The court’s admission of the plea marks the first judicial step toward potentially lodging an FIR and re-opening the inquiry under judicial oversight. A final decision on permitting the FIR will follow after the state’s response and any further hearings.
