National Security Comes First! JNU Suspends MoU with Turkish University

Turkey had sided with Pakistan during its conflict with India. It even provided drones to Pakistan to use in attacks against India. As a result, public anger in India against Turkey has been rising, with Indian tourists already calling for a boycott of Turkey.

Now, citing national security concerns, Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has decided to suspend its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkey’s Inonu University until further notice.

In a post on JNU’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, it stated:

“Due to national security reasons, the MoU with Turkey’s Inonu University has been suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the nation.”

The MoU had been signed on February 3, 2025, for a duration of three years, with its validity extending until February 2, 2028. It aimed to promote academic cooperation and exchange between the two institutions.

However, in light of the current geopolitical situation, JNU has prioritized national interest over academic collaboration.
