Indus Water Treaty Will Remain Suspended, Says Indian Ministry of External Affairs

Kashmir is an integral part of India, and any attempts by external parties to interfere in this matter will not be tolerated — India reiterated this stance once again on Tuesday. At a press conference in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal firmly stated, “India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir remains unchanged. There has been no deviation.”

This statement is widely seen as a response to recent comments by former US President Donald Trump, who expressed a desire to mediate on the Kashmir issue. Additionally, Trump claimed that his mediation had helped prevent a potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan — a claim that New Delhi has categorically dismissed, asserting that any military engagement between the two countries has remained within conventional bounds.

India also reiterated that while it is open to dialogue with Pakistan, such discussions will be limited strictly to issues of terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address to the nation, where he stated, “Talks and trade cannot go hand in hand; water and blood cannot flow together,” the Ministry’s spokesperson echoed the sentiment, confirming that the Indus Water Treaty will remain suspended for now.
