Former School Service Commission (SSC) advisor Shantiprasad Sinha has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking bail in connection with the CID’s case related to the recruitment scam, in addition to the CBI case. According to the allegations, he has been in jail for 1 year and 3 months based on the CID case. In that same case, Sheikh Sirajuddin and his wife Jasmin Khatun have been granted bail. Furthermore, Alok Sarkar, an official of the education department, has also been granted bail.
A chargesheet has already been filed in the case, and several individuals have received bail. However, due to the state’s delay in granting permission, the charges cannot be framed, and the trial has not yet commenced.
Justice Subhra Ghosh postponed the hearing of the bail plea. The judge asked the state’s lawyer: when will the Chief Secretary grant permission to frame charges and begin the trial against the officials of the education department?
The next hearing is scheduled for May 19.
Last year, Shantiprasad Sinha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the state’s recruitment corruption case. On August 10, 2022, he was arrested by the CBI in connection with corruption in the recruitment of teachers for classes 9 and 10. He is accused of being involved in transactions worth crores of rupees.
