A Cyclone is Approaching Again!

A cyclone is expected to form in the month of May. A low-pressure system may develop over Bengal between the 16th and 22nd of May. Meteorologists have stated that cyclonic rotation requires a source of energy, and that is likely to be present during this period. Additionally, water vapor plays a major role, along with easterly winds, which act as a catalyst for storm formation.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), a low-pressure system may form near the east-central Bay of Bengal in the coming days. This system could evolve into a cyclonic circulation. If the low pressure develops between May 16 and May 22, it could once again intensify into a cyclone.

The weather department is closely monitoring the entire situation. The next three to four days are crucial — during this time, a clearer picture will emerge.

There is a forecast of thunderstorms and rain in Kolkata and South Bengal in the coming days. Several districts may experience light to heavy rainfall. Currently, a heatwave is affecting Kolkata and South Bengal. Rainfall may bring some relief by lowering the temperature slightly.

According to the weather forecast, light rain and mild winds are expected in the city on May 13. On May 14, there is a possibility of moderate rainfall. The weather department has also reported that moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely in Kolkata on May 15 and 16.
