Just days after a similar incident on Saturday, another bomb scare rocked Kolkata Airport on Tuesday. According to sources from IndiGo Airlines, a Mumbai-bound flight made a stopover in Kolkata, during which a 26-year-old male passenger claimed to be carrying a bomb.
The aircraft, originally departing from Imphal, had landed in Kolkata to pick up more passengers en route to Mumbai. During routine cleaning and security checks — standard procedure during such layovers — the young passenger reportedly told a security officer that he had a bomb with him.
This prompted immediate action:
- The aircraft was moved to an isolated location on the tarmac.
- A thorough inspection of the plane was carried out.
- The passenger was detained and interrogated.
As expected, the statement caused panic among airport staff and passengers. Authorities from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed the sequence of events and emphasized that safety protocols were followed without delay.
The motive behind the false bomb claim is still unclear. Some local sources speculate that the passenger, who boarded the flight from Imphal and was heading to Mumbai, might have made the statement out of irritation during the aircraft cleaning process.
Further investigation is underway.
